Durango PlayFest 7th Annual Festival
Durango PlayFest, a nonprofit devoted to new play development, received LATC funding for local cast and crew for one show during the Durango PlayFest 7th Annual Festival.
PlayFest focuses on the process of playwriting, giving local audiences an unforgettable behind-the-scenes look at how theatre is created. Plays are an important training ground for students. We recruit locally for paid roles such as intern, stage manager, actor, production coordinators, and more.
Durango PlayFest is unique because viewers have a front-row seat to the creative process as audiences provide feedback to the playwrights so that they can rewrite and develop the work further.
LATC funding allowed Durango PlayFest to bring affordable world-class theatre to rural Colorado, engage the community in the collaborative, creative process of play development, contribute to the creative economy through education and employment of area students and the public, and support a fellow arts nonprofit by renting the Durango Arts Center for all play performances.
LATC funded the wages, stipends, intern salaries, etc. of local artists and contractors, including actors, assistant stage managers, narrators, a stage manager, a sound design intern, a sound technician, a lighting technician, a production coordinator, and van drivers.
