Durango Earth Day Festival

Earth Day Durango hosted a "Procession of the Species" down Main Ave, alongside a vibrant, child-friendly celebration in Buckley Park on April 12 for the 2025 Durango Earth Day Festival. The park was filled with booths and entertainment, including a children's art area and local music. Earth Day Durango held events throughout Earth Month, including workshops, art contests for kids, and work parties.

LTAC funding supported the creation, staffing, and purchase of used or recycled materials for a workshop to create costumes for the Procession. It also promoted art by children, both at the children's art area at Buckley and through an elementary student art contest, where winners were announced at the Earth Day Celebration. Live performances at Buckley by Ballet Folklorico and Afrobeatniks, a local band, were funded. Other events consisted of a maker space, where two local women artists demonstrated their art techniques using cast-off materials.

“We want to show that you can be sustainable, create beautiful things, and have fun.”

Earth Day Durango inspires businesses, organizations, and people of all ages to live more sustainably, take meaningful action at home and in the community, reduce carbon emissions, and promote social justice.
