The American Legion
The American Legion (Trujillo - Sheets Post 28) received LATC funding to update the electrical, acoustic, lighting, security, heating/cooling, and WiFi systems, and replace ceiling tiles.
The American Legion hired a licensed, bonded, and insured local electrician to upgrade the main service to 200A, replace the recalled breaker panel, bring the system up to modern building codes, and add additional circuits where needed.
They installed the first phase of acoustical treatments to absorb as much sound as possible and replaced the ceiling tiles with new, modern, acoustically absorbent tiles to increase intelligibility to our members. This helps older members to hear conversations near them with the large amount of background noise and allows the Legion to host more events.
Additionally, the Post is working with the Animas City Theater and others to provide a small venue where local and up-and-coming artists can perform. LATC funding provided the missing pieces to get everything operating for the modern sound system, and small, but state-of-the-art lighting systems were installed to allow the venue to be used for many types of events.
The American Legion Post in Durango was chartered in 1919. Since then, the post has been welcoming veterans from all branches of our Armed Forces. Today, they continue to welcome all military personnel serving our country. Joining the Post enables members to continue to serve “God, Country, and Community.” They aim to implement the goals, aspirations, dreams, peace, and blessings for our country, friends, and families.
