nameless narratives

Legacy Unbound received LATC funding to cover the costs of the Nameless Narratives exhibit and opening reception. These costs included ASL interpretation and Spanish translation for opening night, stipends for 18 artists of color, art supplies for participating artists in need, creation and printing of educational materials, and 3 artist-led workshops free to the community.
The Nameless Narratives project weaves together the minimized stories of Communities of Color. This program guides artists through learning about local history and crafting visionary ways of representing the meanings that land, space, and time can hold in the past, present, and future.
Through historical texts, first-person narratives, and archives, Nameless Narratives assembles new stories through the lenses of contemporary artists of color. Each place-based exhibition seeks to amplify the voices of those living in the community and the folks whose love, labor, and lives have made it possible.
Durango was the first location in the national series because of its size, diversity, and the commitment to increase support for the arts and artists from diverse backgrounds. In Durango, the works were in a variety of mediums and styles, and explored the histories of Durango's Black, Brown, and Indigenous residents, particularly in working-class communities.
Nameless Narratives is a project of Legacy Unbound, a national non-profit committed to telling, sharing, and preserving the stories of communities pushed into the margins.
Legacy Unbound works to tell, share, and preserve the stories of communities pushed into the margins. They aim to create a world where media reflects the diversity of human experience, and the stories that live beyond words and pages are valued and respected.
Legacy Unbound has two primary programs. Erasing the Margins Internship Program, which provides paid internships to People of Color in the book industry, and the Nameless Narratives Exhibition Series, which showcases the works and stories of BIPOC artists using varied mediums to explore and represent local histories
